What Is an Online Dietitian Consultation?
An online consultation with a dietitian is a one-to-one video or phone session where we work together to build a realistic, sustainable nutrition plan that’s specific to your body, lifestyle, and goals. It’s the same level of care and expertise you’d get in a clinic, but it happens from the comfort of your couch, your kitchen table, or wherever you are in the world.
During our time together, we’ll dive deep into your nutrition and lifestyle habits, set clear goals, and build a plan that’s practical and achievable. My goal is to give you the tools and support you need to create long-lasting changes. This is not a quick-fix diet or one-size-fits-all plan.
Who Online Dietitian Consultations Are For
Online consultations are ideal for anyone who wants expert nutrition advice without the hassle of traveling to a clinic. I work with clients from all over the world (with the exception of Bermuda, the USA, and Canada) on a wide range of goals and conditions, including:
- Weight management and sustainable fat loss
- Fertility and prenatal nutrition
- Gut health (including IBS and low FODMAP)
- Diabetes and metabolic health
- Renal nutrition
- Eating disorders and disordered eating
I also hold additional qualifications in many of these areas, and because I work with a team of dietitians, you’ll always be matched with the best person for your individual needs.
If you are on the fence about whether or not you are a good fit with us, I encourage reaching out and just directly asking.
We’re always upfront about who we can help. If we think we’re a good match, we’ll say so, and if not, we’ll be honest about that too. And if there’s another service or professional that might suit you better, we’ll do our best to point you in that direction.
What Are We Trying to Achieve with the Consult?
Simply put, we’re here to help you reach your goals.
You bring your knowledge, preferences, and lived experience to the table. We bring our expertise and experience working with people just like you. The aim is to meet in the middle and create a plan that works for you, one that’s realistic, sustainable, and helps you achieve what matters most.
What Happens Before Your First Appointment
Once you book your consultation, you’ll receive a pre-consultation form to complete before our session. This form is a vital part of the process. It helps us understand your current habits, lifestyle, medical history, and nutrition background before we even meet.
It also means we can spend less time gathering information during the consultation and more time creating a personalized plan that actually works for you.
Inside Your First Online Consultation
Your initial consultation is up to 75 minutes long and is designed to give you clarity, direction, and a clear plan forward.
After we meet and go through the basic introductions, the first step is diving into your background information and anything that’s relevant to your goals.
This part is a mix of you sharing what feels important from your perspective and us asking targeted questions that will help shape your personalized plan. During this stage, we mostly listen so we can really understand your needs.
This part of the consultation is unique to each person, but often includes conversations about things like:
- Your goals and what you want to achieve
- Relevant medical history
- Any medications or supplements you’re taking
- Recent blood test results
- What your current diet looks like
- Things you’ve tried before, including what has and hasn’t worked
- Your current activity levels and exercise history
- Appetite patterns
- Digestive symptoms (if relevant)
- Sleep quality
- Stress levels
- Your relationship with food
- Daily routines, work schedule, cooking habits, shopping routines, and other lifestyle factors
All of this information helps us make better decisions together. It ensures we’re on the same page and working toward the same goals with a full understanding of your situation.
Nutrition Education
Often, the next part of the consultation focuses on nutrition knowledge that’s relevant to your situation and goals.
Our dietitians have spent years studying and practicing in this field, and this is a chance for us to share some of that knowledge in a way that helps you reach your goals.
Of course, we’ll work together to create a plan and all you need to do is follow it. But understanding why we’re making certain recommendations can make it easier to trust the process. It can also give you the tools to continue making progress long after your sessions with us have ended.
While we often include this educational piece, it’s completely optional. Some clients already have a solid understanding of nutrition and prefer to focus more on accountability or getting an outside perspective. Others simply want to skip the education part and jump straight to the plan.
There’s no right or wrong here. If you want the education, we’re happy to provide it. If you’re not interested, we can leave it out and focus on what matters most to you.
Personalized Action Plan
The final step is creating your personalized plan. We’ll take everything we’ve discussed and use it to put together a plan tailored to your goals.
Some parts of the plan might be developed during the session while we’re together. However, most of the time we’ll spend extra time after the consultation refining the details. You’ll then receive your plan within 2 business days.
The type of plan you receive will always depend on what you’re looking for and what will benefit you most.
What Follow-Up Consultations Look Like
Nutrition isn’t a one-and-done thing, and follow-up sessions are where the real progress happens. These shorter appointments are all about fine-tuning your plan, troubleshooting challenges, and helping you stay accountable as you move toward your goals.
We’ll review what’s working, adjust what’s not, and build on your initial plan with new recipes, updated goals, and deeper strategies. Most clients find that ongoing support is what helps them truly change their habits and sustain results.
My Nutrition Philosophy (And What Makes My Approach Different)
I’I’m a very practical person, and everything I do has to be implementable in real life. My approach is:
- Evidence-based: Everything we do is rooted in science and best practice.
- Non-restrictive: I’ll never hand you a rigid meal plan or expect you to cut out your favorite foods.
- Sustainable: We focus on long-term changes that last, not quick fixes.
- Person-centered: You are the core of the plan, and your preferences, your lifestyle, and your goals come first.
No cookie-cutter templates here. Every consultation is tailored from the ground up to work for you. And the results speak for themselves, with clients often seeing sustainable weight loss, improved gut health, restored menstrual cycles, better energy, and a healthier relationship with food.
Are Online Dietitian Consultations Effective?
Absolutely. Online consultations are just as effective as in-person appointments, and many people find them even more convenient and easier to stick with. You’ll get the same level of support, accountability, and expert guidance without the need to commute or rearrange your day.
